The Dalitso Project
Where did it all begin? In 2007 a group of young people left Arbroath for a month long trip to Malawi, central Africa to work with Aquaid Lifeline, with the aim of helping some of the world's poorest people.
What they did not expect was for them to leave feeling challenged by the incredible generosity, happiness and friendliness of the people they had come into contact with. This made coming back to the UK and to the wealth and prosperity of a first world country so much harder. The young people felt that the hardships faced by so many of the world's poor were so unjust and that the unfairness of the opportunities that one has, based solely on where in the world they are born, had to be addressed. So, in 2007 when the opportunity presented itself for the group to purchase some land and build a daycare centre for orphans in the Thyolo District area of Malawi, it seemed that this would be an excellent opportunity to invest in the next generation of young Malawians and give them some of the opportunities they would otherwise have been unable to gain. |
We are responsible for 2 orphan centres working in partnership with Aquaid Lifeline to combat poverty through orphan care, education, food programmes, vocational training, healthcare and house building in Malawi.
Visits are made every year to check up on progress, set budgets and make plans for further developments at both centres so that we can provide for as many needy orphans as we can. |
Charitable Objectives
The purpose of the Dalitso Project is to alleviate poverty, support education and develop health care in Malawi. It will work in partnership with Malawian Registered NGO's. Primarily this involves continuing to support the Orphan Care Centres at Thyolo and Kambilonjo which were built and are run by Aquaid Lifeline previously using funding provided by the St Andrews Church Malawi project from 2007 to 2016. Additionally Dalitso will continue collection of clothes, educational material, medical equipment and associated goods and shipping such to Malawi for distribution to those in need.
